NEVER FALL
I was in the car with the opened window next to me. So i could see clearly the leaves that fly and fall. I could feel the wind against my face softly.
"Abby, shall you close the window? You know its autumn and the wind's blowing so fast. You dont want to get cold, do you?." Mother said from the front seat. How could i get cold? She had dressed me a dress that was so thick as thick as billions of fleece and wool. The wind even got scared of my dress. She didnt let me wear my favorite.
"Sit properly, Abigail. Dont worry, We're almost there. Don't worry." Granny said as she smiled. She was sitting next to me. Worry of what? I thought to myself. I could see that someone who was worried about something was herself. I had no reason to worry about something. I didnt even know what i meant with that 'something' and i didnt even know where we were going. This trip has been more than one hour and i started to get bored.
Father pulled the car onto the path that was wide enough for two cars passed. With trees lined on each side. Beautiful trees. I want to see it from the windshield so i leaned between the seats of father and mother. Seeing how amazing the street fulfilled by dried leaves. I think i know these trees. I think i know where it is. I think... Suddenly I realized something. I leaned back into my chair. Yes. I knew this path. Yes. And I knew where it was going. Fear of squirming inside me. I knew what was granny worried about and I knew what to expect and should I worried about now.
We were on the way to a beautiful place as i remember. But full of sadness. I would visit the one that had ever changed my sight of this world. My old friend, Claudio Moxham.
The last time i saw him, he was so broken, there was no lights in his eyes anymore. I could see that he was very very sad. I could see the hatred from within. The hatred of her older brother's death.
Its been a long time. And it was almost completely erased from my mind.
But i still miss the way he laugh and smile, walk and run, talk and shout. I still want them. Would he do those things again? Even if i ask him to? Would he? Is it impossible? Because myself even afraid to ask him to...
The path brought us to a gate. My heart beated so fast as our car stopped infront of a big white gate. I remembered the first time i saw this gate. I remembered that it was so shiny, but now it looked terible. It liked that no one wants to looked after it. Yes we'll visit the same place and same family, but this time with a different reason...
It made me remember....
I. The incident and The flowers
From the car, Abigail Moore, could see a big gate at the end of the path. The gate with a shiny white color. Arriving at the gate, there was an old man who she thought was a gardener. Father had a little conversation with the gardener. The gardener was initially confused, but he was immediately delighted after talking to father. He opened the gate and then waved as they drove through the gate.
They rounded an ornamental fountain that was big enough. Very very far away, she could see the high trees that stretched around the Moxham family residence. Father stopped the car right in front of a big house with the Victorian style. There was an old lady showed out from inside the house. Her face was so bright and happy to saw them. Granny opened the door and got out of the car.
“Cordelia!” The old lady said. She walked to the old lady and gave her a hug. They looked so happy could meet each other. Mother and Father talked a bit then followed Granny got out of the car.
“Jordan! Elizabeth!” said the old lady. They were shaking hand and hugged the old lady. Abigail just stayed inside of the car. She imperessed by the house and the ground. It looked so soft and beautiful. The interiors were so neatly arranged. Her eyes just couldnt stop stared up at the residence just to see how amazing it is.
"Abby!" Jordan, her father shouted from outside and asked her to get out. She opened her door then stepped outside.
Her skin was covered by long stockings and high collar. The hem of her black dress touched her knees. She started to make a step by step. Closer and closer and more closer with the old lady. And about three steps left, she stopped. The old lady stared at her as she smiled.
"Come, Abigail." Granny grabed her hand and took her very close to the old lady.
"This is my good friend, Margareth, that ive told you before." She whispered.
"Hello, Abigail, how nice to see you again!" Margareth said as she kissed Abigail's cheeck.
"The last time i saw you, you were still baby. Look you now!" Abigail didn't give any responds untill she realized by Elizabeth’s eyes, her mother’s eyes that her Mother didn't like it her way. She had to say something. But what must she said? She wasnt good with conversation to somebody new. She wasn't a good person for new people. She had no friend because she was afraid to went outside the house. She scared of the world and the people that lived in it. She just got comfortable around her family. Yes, she saved. But she wasn't free.
"Its... Its.. Mmm... Nice to see you too Mrs. Moxham." Margareth just smiled.
"Lets go inside. Axford and August are waiting." When they got inside, there was a reunion of parents. Which was the most thing that Abigail hated. Everybody became very happy and laughed. But Abigail became so silent and stood behind them.
"So this young lady is Abigail?" Said a woman that was aware of her existence as she leaned forward to see Abigail's face clearly.
"So pretty!" said the other woman which was stood next to the first woman.
"She'll be a good friend of Claudio, won't she?" A man said. Everybody stared at her. And herself began to feel very uncomfortable with those eyes.
"Abby, these are Annalise," Jordan said as he pointed the woman that leaned forward to her,
"Uncle August," he pointed a man that stood next to him,
"Uncle Axford and Aunty Lissa, the parents of Christo and Claudio." She was just so quite. Shy tried to recall what she had just heard. Are they important for me to remember? She thought. Soon after that, came two boys. The oldest was about 18 years old and the little one was about 12. They looked so tired and sweaty. The little one said,
"Good afternoon, Father, Mother, Granny, Uncle, Aunty and emmm..." he looked around the room then looked at the older boy. They stared each other then the older brother said,
"Hi Mrs. Moore, sir Jordan and ma’am Ellie." Said the oldest.
“Hi Christo, hi Claudio. It’s been a long time. You both now grow up.” Margareth said.
"Its so nice that you still remember us, Claudio." Elizabeth said.
"Of course Mrs. Moore" He said; "I will never forget the moment when i was child and i called you with your names." Then Jordan and Cordelia laughed;
“Yeah, I remember that.”
"That was so..."
"Silly, i know." Then everybody laughed as Father told a joke.
"Yes, and about your appearance today, You still look a little bit silly." Father said.
"I agree with you, Jordan." Axford said.
"Don't everybody think that my oldest son need to prepare himself for dinner? Its almost night."
"Im sorry for my appearance today. But i've got to do something. I'm here just to make sure Claudio prepare himself for dinner as you want, Father. Right, Clau?" Claudio just laughed.
"Well, i'm always ready for dinner." Apparently he understood the typical of his older brother that rarely in their Father's side.
"See?" Christo said and made everybody laughed but Axford. Everyone knew that Christo was smart as smart as his father, Axford. And it made himself didnt afraid to Axford. He was the one that could make Axford speachless in an argument.
"Christo, Claudio, have you meet Abigail?" said Lissa.
“Abigail who?” said Claudio. Then he made everybody once again laughed so loud.
“This Abigail, Clau.” Christo got closer to Abigail who was stood next to her mother. They were face to face.
“Right? You must be Abigail, the princess of Mr. and Mrs. Moore.” He smiled. But Abigail said nothing. Princess? She just stared at Christo’s eyes. Beautiful eyes. She could see from his eyes the he was a guy with no fear, no worried, and just perfect.
“She is a bit shy.” Elizabeth said. Then Christo laughed.
“Well, it’s better than me and Claudio. We are a bit crazy.” He blinked his eye to Abigail. I’m fly. Abigail realized that this guy was just more than perfect. He was more than beautiful and he was more than a prince. But she just didn’t realized yet that she was in love for the very first time.
“Well I’ve got to go.” He stepped out and Abigail lost her beautiful view.
“Will you come for dinner, honey?” said Margareth. It stopped him.
“I think I can’t make it. I’ll go for the next dinner.” Then he ran away.
“Where is he going?” Elizabeth asked to Lissa.
“The horses.” Lissa said
“Just like when his father were young.” Elizabeth smiled.
“Yes, and nobody can stop them.” Lissa took a breath.
“Lissa, the dinner almost ready.” Annalise said to Lissa.
“Thank you Anna, would you help Claudio to take a bath?”
“No problem.” Annalise and Cladio went upstairs.
“Well everybody, let’s go to dinning room. The dinner almost ready. Jordan, Elie, and Abigail need to taste the chickens from our farm. ” Then everybody went to the dinning room except Margareth and Cordelia. Margareth stayed in living room. She called Axford and talked with him almost about an hour while everybody sitting on the dinning room. Waiting for dinner.
And among the four adults, two little children sitting side by side.
“Hey.” Claudio said to Abigail that lowered her head down.
“So your are Abigail?” Claudio didn’t know that it was just useless. Abigil just kept her head down.
“I am claudio.” Abigail still kept her head down.
“Can you talk?” And she still kept her head down.
“Won’t you talk to me?” no answer. Abigail kept her head down.
“We can be friends, you know?” Abigail still kept her head down. Claudio didn’t want to speak anymore. Claudio thought that Abigail was a boring girl. To prove it, There’s only one way. Claudio smiled. With his knowledgeably voice, he said;
“My grandma always said that if a girl does not want to talk and keep her head down and would not lift her head up and…” he didn’t know what to say anymore.
“Well she said that a company of wolves would come to that girl from under the table at the time and she would lost her face because of those wolves will eat it. End of story.” Abigail shocked. She just couldn’t imagine her look with no face. That would be so terrible if she would dead with no face. So scary.
Then slowly she picked her head up and took a look the foods that had been ready on the table.
“They are there about three minutes ago.” Claudio said. Abigail turned her head to Claudio. Then he raised his left eyebrow.
“What is Axford talking about with Margareth?” Jordan asked to August.
“I’m not sure. Maybe it’s because of Christo’s attitude.”
“Do you think I should help him? I mean, as his friend, you know.”
“Maybe you can talk with him tomorrow.”
“Okay. And anyway, why did Christo won’t come dinner tonight? Where does he got dinner tonight then? Where is he now?” Jordan asked.
“Um, long story. It’s just,” August looked afraid to tell Jordan.
“It’s just what?”
“Um, well you know, as his beloved uncle, and he is my beloved nephew,” August said as Jordan rolled his eyes upward.
“Yes, yes. I know. Just to the point, August.”
“Well, he is the son of my beloved brother, and yeah, you know right? And you know that and I, um…”
“August?” Then August laughed and just can’t stop.
“Okay, okay. Wait, wait a sec. I just missed to make a fun of you, Jordan.” He still laughing.
“Not funny August, I’m not youth anymore. I’m serious. And I want to know why did Christo just leave and no one tried to stop him. Something is wrong. It is his house where he can get foods for dinner and bed for sleep on. But the truth that I have found when he grow up now is he is not here tonight. Where is he? Where is he, August? Why no one looking for him? I could see the pain of Axford when Christo said that he will come to the next dinner. What did he mean with the next dinner? Tell me, August. Why did he leave? Tell me the story!” Jordan almost yelled. August just looked at him with the opened eyes and tried to understand what words that he had just listened. Jordan knew more than August thought. Need some seconds to ease the atmosphere. When everything has came like it was, Jordan asked again with a low tone of voice.
“Why is it, August?” Then August took a breath then said.
“It’s a girl, Jordan.”
After the incident, he didnt want to talk to anyone, including me. His eyes became so terrible to behold. The sun seemed to be afraid to put the light on him.
